How this site sources, dates, and corrects what it publishes, who pays for it, and what cannot be bought. Written plainly so you can hold me to it.
Every one of these is checkable on the pages themselves.
Where a claim rests on a source, the source is named. Where I could not verify something, the page says so rather than implying confirmation.
Pages carry a review date. News articles carry a publication time and, if substantially updated, a separate update time and a note on what changed. Dates are never bumped to look fresh.
When something is wrong it is corrected on the page with a dated note explaining the error. Pages are not quietly edited to hide a mistake.
No payment, gift, hosted trip, or commercial relationship buys coverage, a recommendation, or favourable treatment. Ever.
Everything here is written and edited by Kanaan Al Aboud. Articles carry a byline. There is no anonymous content and no undisclosed contributors.
Research and drafting tools are used, as in most newsrooms. Every published claim is checked by a human, and responsibility for accuracy is mine alone.
This site may carry advertising or sponsorship in future. That makes the separation below the most important thing on this page.
Editorial coverage is not for sale. A hotel cannot pay to be listed in our directory or described favourably. An operator cannot pay to be recommended. A company cannot pay to appear in our economy or news coverage, or to have criticism removed.
Advertising is labelled as advertising. Any paid placement is visually distinct from editorial and marked as an advertisement or as sponsored, on the page where it appears.
Relationships are disclosed where they exist. If a company mentioned in an article advertises with us, the article says so. If a trip, stay, or access was provided free, the article says that too.
Right now there is nothing to disclose. As of the date below, this site carries no advertising, has no sponsors, takes no commissions, and has never been hosted or gifted anything. If that changes, this page changes with it.
For factual and historical content I work from published scholarship, institutional sources, and primary documents where available. For current conditions I rely on official statements, reporting from established outlets, and first-hand accounts from people in Syria or recently returned, and I say which.
On contested subjects, particularly casualty figures, population estimates, and economic data, I give ranges and name the disagreement rather than choosing the most convenient number. Syria has had no full census since before 2011 and anyone quoting its statistics to two decimal places is overstating what is known.
Every substantive page carries a review date. Where a specific fact is time-sensitive, it carries its own date in the text. News articles show a publication timestamp, and where an article has been materially changed after publication it shows an update timestamp and a note describing what changed.
Dates are not refreshed without a substantial update to the content. Re-dating a page to make it appear current is both dishonest and contrary to search engine guidelines.
If you believe something here is wrong, write to corrections@visittosyria.com with the page and, if possible, the correct position and your basis for it. Corrections take priority over everything else in the inbox.
Substantive errors are corrected on the page with a dated note. Minor fixes such as typographical errors are made without a note. Nothing is deleted to make an error disappear.
If a correction is refused, I will say why. Disagreement about interpretation is not the same as a factual error, and I will not remove an honest assessment because a business dislikes it.
I am Syrian, a son of Syria's Great Revolution, and I am not neutral about Syria. I support the free Syria the revolution made possible, and its president and government. I want people to visit, to invest, and to return. I state that openly rather than performing a detachment I do not have.
What that does not license is misleading anyone. This site publishes the areas that remain unsafe, the honest assessment of who should not yet return, the reasons an investor might decline, and the government advisories that contradict our own view. Where my position could affect the reliability of a page, the page says so.
Research, drafting, and editing tools including large language models are used in producing this site, as they now are across most publishing. That does not change where responsibility sits.
No page is published without human review. Every factual claim, figure, date, and source is checked by me before publication. Where a subject requires knowledge I do not have, I either find a source or say that the question is open. Errors on this site are mine, not a tool's.
Nothing here is legal, investment, tax, immigration, or medical advice. The safety, sanctions, return, and investment pages in particular are summaries of the public record intended to tell you what questions to ask, not to answer them for your circumstances. Decisions in those areas need qualified professional advice in your own jurisdiction.
This site does not carry comments and does not publish user-submitted content. That is a deliberate choice: moderating political discussion about Syria responsibly is beyond what one person can do well, and doing it badly would be worse than not doing it.
