Terms of use

Last updated 20 September 2026Version 1.0Applies to visittosyria.com

The short version: this site is free to read and provided for information only. Nothing on it is legal, investment, tax, immigration, or medical advice, and nothing on it is a guarantee about conditions in Syria. You are responsible for your own decisions, including the decision to travel. Please do not copy the content wholesale, and do tell me if something is wrong.

1. Who provides this site

visittosyria.com is published by Kanaan Al Aboud as a personal project. There is no company behind it and no institutional backing. References to "we" or "us" on this site mean the publisher.

Publisher: Kanaan Al Aboud
Post code: 500169
Contact: hello@visittosyria.com

2. Accepting these terms

By using this site you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site. There is nothing to sign and no account to create; use of the site is the acceptance.

3. What this site is for

This is a reference and journalism site about Syria: its history, culture, religion, languages, archaeology, geography, diaspora, economy, and the practicalities of visiting. It is provided free of charge and for general information.

It is not a travel agency, tour operator, booking platform, or agent. It arranges nothing, sells nothing, takes no commission, and is not party to any arrangement you make with a hotel, operator, guide, airline, or any other business mentioned here.

4. No professional advice

Nothing on this site is legal, investment, tax, immigration, financial, insurance, or medical advice, and nothing on it should be relied on as such.

This applies with particular force to the pages covering safety, sanctions, return, property, citizenship, and investment. Those pages summarise the public record in order to tell you what questions to ask. They are not answers for your circumstances. Decisions in those areas require qualified professional advice in your own jurisdiction.

5. Travel and safety

Travel to Syria carries real risks. Conditions vary sharply by region and change quickly. Most governments maintain travel advisories concerning Syria, and standard travel insurance commonly does not provide cover where such advice is in force.

Information on this site about safety, access, roads, borders, or site openings reflects our understanding at the date shown and may be out of date, incomplete, or wrong by the time you read it. It is not a substitute for your own government's current advice, for professional security advice, or for the judgement of a licensed local guide.

You are responsible for your own decisions, including the decision to travel, where to go, and who to travel with. Nothing here is a representation or guarantee that any place, route, or activity is safe.

6. Accuracy and currency

Content is researched and checked in good faith, and pages carry the date on which they were last reviewed. Even so, this site is written by one person about a country that is changing month to month, and errors and omissions will occur.

No warranty is given that the content is complete, accurate, or current. Where a page describes something as unverified, contested, or subject to change, please take that at face value. If you find an error, please write to corrections@visittosyria.com and see the editorial standards page for how corrections are handled.

7. Copyright and reuse

The text, design, and original graphics on this site are the property of the publisher and are protected by copyright. The Visit to Syria name and logo are ours.

You may read, print, share links to, and quote briefly from this site for personal, educational, or journalistic purposes, provided you attribute it and link to the page you used. What you may not do without written permission:

  • Republish pages or substantial parts of them, on a website or elsewhere
  • Use the content to train or fine-tune a commercial machine learning model
  • Scrape the site systematically or at a volume that burdens the server
  • Present the content as your own, or remove attribution
  • Use the name or logo in a way that implies endorsement or partnership

Photographs may be licensed from third parties and may carry separate restrictions. Requests to reuse anything: hello@visittosyria.com.

8. Links to other sites

This site links to external sources, official pages, and businesses where doing so is useful. Those sites are not under our control. A link is not an endorsement, and we are not responsible for the content, accuracy, safety, or practices of any site we link to.

9. Advertising and third parties

At the date of this version, this site carries no advertising and has no sponsors. If that changes, paid placements will be clearly labelled as advertising or sponsorship and kept separate from editorial content, as set out on the editorial standards page.

Any dealings you have with an advertiser or with a business mentioned on this site are between you and them. We are not a party to them and accept no responsibility for them.

10. Liability

This site is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. To the extent permitted by law, the publisher is not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of this site or reliance on its content, including loss arising from travel decisions, commercial decisions, or the acts of any third party mentioned here.

Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

11. Acceptable use

Please do not attempt to interfere with the operation or security of this site, to access areas you are not authorised to access, to transmit malware, or to use automated means to place an unreasonable load on the server. Access may be blocked where necessary to protect the site.

12. Governing law

These terms and any dispute arising from them or from use of this site are governed by the law of Romania, where the publisher is established, and the courts of Romania have jurisdiction.

If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the European Union, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer law in your country of residence.

13. Changes to these terms

These terms carry a version number and a date. They may be updated, and the current version is always the one published here. Material changes will be reflected in the version number.

14. Contact

Questions about these terms, permission requests, and legal correspondence: hello@visittosyria.com. Factual corrections: corrections@visittosyria.com.

Version 1.0, 20 September 2026. These terms are written in plain language and reflect a free, non-commercial information site. They are not a substitute for legal advice and will be reviewed by a qualified adviser before this site carries advertising or takes payment of any kind.
